To the followers of Christ: If you don’t work, you don’t eat, but there is an exception to this rule. We see beggars panhandling on the streets all the time. Florida is popular for homeless people, especially during the winter; they move south to get out of the cold like the birds. Most of those we see look capable of holding a job; if you dedicate as much time as they do asking for money on every off-ramp on the interstate highway, you would think they could work. Some are mentally disabled, but others are drug users looking for their next fix. However, the blind beggar Jesus healed couldn’t work because of his condition, so to eat, he sat and begged for food. People knew him because they had either helped him or got irritated with him for always asking for money or food. When they realized he could now see, they were stunned and could barely believe what they were seeing. This man, blind from birth, was now released from the prison of his body and could now function as a whole adult. The people who knew him wondered how he got his sight back, but the man hadn’t seen Jesus; he knew his name and that he had created a salve from clay and spit to cure his eyes.

Did Jesus, who could have said a word and the man would be healed, use this opportunity to show that some healings require medication? Maybe not always from the chemicals that big pharma produces, but from the healing herbs God gave us to help with our ailments. Did you know that many of the herbs that we use to season our food have healing properties? You can learn more about the amazing things God gave us if you look into it a little further. By healing this man, Jesus helped the community by getting a beggar off the street, but also showed that he was truly the Son of God.

He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight. John 9:11
