Shedding the World

The Conflict Between Grace and Corruption in the Heart

Some would say, "Oh, we're not under the law; we are under grace," and that is true, but would you need grace if God's law didn't exist? Did you know people can go to hell with their eyes wide open, aware of God's law? Matthew Henry says it this way: "It is possible for a man to go to hell with his eyes open, illuminated with common convictions, and to carry about with him a self-accusing conscience, even in the service of the devil." They may know God's law and be convinced of their sinfulness, yet continue in behavior opposed to God. Did you also know that there will be people in hell who have said the sinner's prayer but never changed, thinking that those few words will save them from the fire? However, unless they have a change of heart, a soul-crushing conviction when they sin, or a check in their spirit when they are about to cross the line into sin, and turn their life around, they will end up in the very place that they were trying to avoid. If you are truly saved, the law will be written on your heart, and you should have self-awareness when you are about to venture into sinful behavior. If you don't, you should be worried and fearful that you may not be under the grace you sought. Seek salvation in Jesus Christ before it's too late and become filled with the Holy Spirit, who will show you the truth about your state of being.

Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. Romans 7:20-25
