I’m in a section of scripture that women everywhere get miffed over, but we shouldn’t; God is not trying to hurt our feelings. It’s not particularly this one verse but the whole section. Here’s my example:

But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God. 1 Corinthians 11:3

God created a specific order, and the reason we must abide by it is seen in the headlines of the day here in the United States, just as it happened in Corinth back in biblical days. Women and men have forgotten God's order. If God is the head of Christ and Christ the head of man and man the head of women, everything works out to God's glory. Women don't like knowing that God considers a man head of women, so some try to reverse that order by cutting their hair, dressing, and acting like a man, hoping they would become superior to a man. In many cases, the reverse is also true of men playing a submissive role and allowing a woman or another man to dominate them. All the women's movements of the past have contributed to the decline in our country and have spread throughout the world. If only women had abided by God's word and not ventured into men's territory, and men started acting like men, our country might not be in decline. God created us to be who we are; nothing we do will change it.

Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman; for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God. 1 Corinthians 11:11-12

It’s tempting to participate in the deeds of darkness; the devil makes it look fun. He is all too happy to accommodate you as you indulge. As worship breaks out all over the United States, the demons will stir and come at us even harder than they ever have in the past. Don’t stop worshipping the one true God! Praise is our fortress! Buckle down with prayer, fast if necessary, and use your Bible to get the proper answers to the questions in your mind. We must constantly communicate with the Lord; there is no other way to get through the tough times ahead. Pray that the Lord comes soon and harshly judges the oppressors. The devil disguises himself as a beacon of light; keep that in mind when you decide to take part in certain social events. Ask God to give you discernment between the spirits before you commit to participating. If you get roped into an event, and the Holy Spirit gives you a check, pray; God is stronger than the enemy and will provide you with a way out. Discern, pray, act, and fortify yourself by praising him with all your heart.

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:31

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he? 1 Corinthians 10:21-22

Be very careful if you decide to indulge in the celebration of Satan like we’ve seen during the half-time shows at the Super Bowl over the past several years. The entertainment industry, including football, is a product of his wiles. We only know about those cases because it’s shown on television to try and loop us in; imagine what we don’t see. Most people in the entertainment industry have signed a contract with a representative of the devil and are required to participate in worshipping him. One case in particular that gives you clues into their depravity is Taylor Swift, who claims to be a Christian, saying, “I’m a Christian,” and People With Real “Christian Values” Support Ab******n.” No! Real Christians do not support this sacrificial offering to Satan. It is idolatry because Satan is not God, and Christ-followers only worship the one true God. Please don’t fall for this lie; it comes from the pit of hell. The Bible warned about it in the Old Testament, and God repeated the message in the New Testament. Just because man’s law permits it doesn’t mean it is acceptable to God. So be very careful about the music you listen to and the shows you watch; they distract from the truth. Don’t fall for it.

We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. 1 Corinthians 10:9-12

We all have things we do as a discipline. We get up at a particular time for work, make sure we have clothing ready, get plenty of sleep, and if you’re like me, you need coffee. We do these things so we can make money for our families. What do you do to feed your spiritual needs? Some of the stuff I do takes discipline. I control what I eat; I get up early, so the house is quiet; I pray before my first sip of coffee, dig into God’s Word, and then write. I can skip specific steps, but prayer and reading God’s Word are non-negotiable. All of the things mentioned are about self-control. We control what we do to make a living, but what about managing ourselves in service to God? Think about how and what you want to accomplish for the Lord; then, set some goals and make them into a habit. I’m told it takes 21 days to form a pattern; that may be an excellent way to start. Think about it, then do yourself a favor; control your body in service to the Lord.

Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:25-27

If food was a love language, I've determined it is mine. So, when the Bible starts talking about food, my ears perk up! However, since today is Valentine's Day, I want to talk about love, but not just any kind of love, God's kind of love. Throughout the Bible, he has encouraged us to love one another. Love is sacrificial, which means we avoid certain things if they could cause a weaker Christian to stumble. Paul uses the example of food sacrificed to idols; though we know that idols do not have breath or life, the religion of that day made it a sin to eat the food presented to them. Though it might be permissible, it is not always beneficial for onlookers to see your liberty. True love considers the weakness of others and avoids becoming a stumbling block. God knows you and sees you! Make sure you exude love since you know he sees everything you do.

But if anyone loves God, he is known by God. Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “an idol has no real existence,” and that “there is no God but one.” 1 Corinthians 8:3-4

But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. 1 Corinthians 8-9

I laid out a design for my garden after church yesterday. I found a website that gives you all the tools, knows all the plants and the spacing needed, and tells you what to plant with each vegetable as a companion to help it grow better and attract beneficial insects. When you give it your address, it also tells you the best time of year to plant certain crops. My plan looks impressive on the computer screen, but we will see how it translates to actual dirt. I’m anticipating a lot of work over the next few weeks preparing the ground and planting my seedlings, hoping for a crop of good food later this year.

God made me who I am, gave me specific skills, and positioned me in this day and age for a reason, so I must continue in what he planned for me. You don’t have to become a missionary or a preacher to do the work God called you to do; use your passions, talents, and gifting as a launch to tell others about Jesus. We can make a plan like the one for my garden, but it’s up to God to grow it; that part is not in our control.

Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him. This is my rule in all the churches. 1 Corinthians 7:17

Don’t act like a bull. He doesn’t care if he just fertilized a cow yesterday; today, he wants to fertilize another one. I watch him chase after his next conquest and see his offspring playing together in the pasture; they don’t even know they are siblings. But he’s an animal; people aren’t supposed to act like that.

Though the Bible dedicates a good portion to teaching us to protect our spiritual well-being, there is also a physical aspect to consider. Because we are the temple of the Holy Spirit, everything we do with our bodies must please him. When we engage sexually with another human, we become one with them. Ultimately, when we protect our body, we protect our mind.

Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20
