Isaiah 55 

The Compassion of the Lord 

If ever there was a chapter that encompassed a summary of the entire Bible, it has to be Isaiah 55. Yesterday I mentioned that Isaiah 54:17 was probably the most-quoted Bible verse; well, Isaiah 55 likely contains the most-quoted verses, to the point that I have nearly all of them memorized, though not in any particular order. 

God makes it known that Israel and Judah are not the only nations He has chosen, and that all human beings are included as His people. Blessings and salvation also belong to the Gentiles, and He has made an everlasting covenant with us through Jesus Christ our Savior. In the following verse, David is a representation of Jesus.

Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. Isaiah 55:3

God reminds us that we don’t think like Him and that His ways are higher than our ways, so if something doesn’t make sense to our finite minds, we may have to wait until we are in the everlasting to comprehend; even then, it may not be completely clear.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9

While you are in your earthly body, you must make God your priority because it’s your only chance to be included in the heavenly realm for eternity. Reminder: we will all live eternally, but it’s the address that matters the most. Jesus is the only way; seek him while he may be found, and he will abundantly pardon your transgressions.

Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:6-7

Isaiah 54

Probably one of the most-quoted verses in the Bible is in Isaiah 54: “No weapon formed against me shall prosper.” It is a comforting promise, but there is more, so we should learn to quote the entire verse because it is a powerful promise.

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD. Isaiah 54:17

Some may say that it is a promise to Israel, but if you read to the end, you can see that it is a promise to the servants of the LORD, and we are the LORD’s servants through Jesus, and if you read the entire chapter, you can see that the Gentiles are part of this promise. 

For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited. Isaiah 54:3

Don’t miss this: it doesn’t say that we won’t have enemies, or that weapons won’t be formed, but it does say that they won’t prosper. We can be confident that when the forces of evil come against us and the enemy and his cronies inundate us, they won’t win. Repent of any unrighteousness and quote Isaiah 54:17 to rebuke the enemy, then keep your focus on Jesus and keep moving forward, and let nothing stop you from receiving your inheritance.

Isaiah 53

It is our own doing if we reject Christ as our Savior. Every bit of what Jesus went through in his short life here on earth as a human was predicted. His coming to us in a lowly form, not as a warrior king, as many thought should happen in that day, but as a pure sacrifice, as an atonement for our sins. Isaiah spells it out plainly in his prophecy about Jesus. But those who rely on the scriptures choose, and continue to ignore, the significance of this one clear chapter in the scriptures that gives us everything we need to identify that it was Jesus that Isaiah wrote about. No man could have acted out, nor would have acted out, what happened to Jesus. It is very sad that the J*ws, who follow every jot and tittle of the Old Testament law and prophets, condemn you if you don’t, yet they ignore one of the most revealing scriptures in the entire Torah. They cannot see it! Even so, their rejection of him was also predicted. Thankfully, their denial of him opened the door for us, as Gentiles, to receive salvation through him as well, and I am grateful. If you have any doubt left in your mind about Jesus, read Isaiah 53 and compare it to his life, and the gaps should fill in for your understanding.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

Isaiah 52

The first part of Isaiah 52 is a prophecy about God releasing the captives from Babylon and returning them to Jerusalem. Babylon didn't pay for the people when they were captured, so God didn't pay anything for their release. It was God who inspired Cyrus to let them go, pay for their trip, give them back the temple accessories, and some of the materials to begin rebuilding.

For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money. Isaiah 52:3

However, Isaiah then begins predicting Jesus' coming for our salvation, and Isaiah 53 makes it clear that the prophecy is about Jesus. I wonder if, hearing this prophecy, they thought that Jesus was coming to save them at that time. 

Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high. Isaiah 52:13

Tomorrow we will cover the truth many want to deny: that Isaiah's prophecy was about salvation through Jesus, and they missed their messiah, even though the prophecy made it clear he was him.

Isaiah 51

Good news for those who are righteous and afflicted by the enemy! The shadow of God’s hand covers you. Keep doing what is right in His eyes, and He will recompense you who have suffered at the hands of your enemy. God sees and knows what we are going through, so we shouldn’t worry about ourselves; we should wait patiently because He will not forsake us. 

And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people. Isaiah 51:16

I’ve seen this happen with my own eyes. Someone vehemently fought against me for more than 30 years, and still fights against me, but cannot see where they are wrong, and now they live in poverty. I never wished it upon them, but because they came against a child of God in such a nasty way, He saw how they treated one of His, and they are now downtrodden and poor. I didn’t have to do anything; I didn’t even pray for what has happened to them; God saw, and knows every lie that was spoken about me, and now they are paying the price, and He has compensated me for their wickedness against me. 

God can see what you are going through. Keep your eyes open and watch what happens. You too will receive your just deserts.

Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine: Thus saith thy Lord the LORD, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of my fury; thou shalt no more drink it again: But I will put it into the hand of them that afflict thee; which have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast laid thy body as the ground, and as the street, to them that went over. Isaiah 51:21-23

Isaiah 50

God is very clear that the trouble we go through is our own doing. He takes no pleasure or receives any payment for the debt you owe. He's God, and already owns everything. Your captivity and afflictions are the fruits of your own folly and wickedness. 

Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away. Isaiah 50:1

Isaiah speaks of himself in chapter 50; he was a prophet speaking a word in season, for that particular time in history. If someone prophesied over you and it hasn't yet been fulfilled, they are likely a liar posing as a prophet, or somehow you missed its fulfillment. Any prophetic word you hear must not go against God's word, and if it is true, God's Word will complement it. We must be careful of those claiming to be prophets because they may be fortune tellers disguised as a servant of God, and may fill your head with things that are untrue and get your mind to focus on things God never put in place for you. Keep your focus on Jesus and pray for discernment daily. 

Be cautious. If you are not in God's Word daily, you are less likely to be discerning and not know if you are hearing the truth or a fallacy. 

The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned. Isaiah 50:4

Isaiah 49

And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth. Isaiah 49:6

Even though the people of Israel are few in number, God can and will raise up children to worship Him. Jesus went to the tribes of Israel and was rejected by all but a few faithful servants. Isaiah 49 is a word to the Gentiles and confirms that salvation in Jesus was for all people, not just His chosen nation. He is telling Israel that He will use kings to release them from captivity, and though they were then few in number, He would populate His people from other nations, bringing in so many that they would feel overcrowded and want for more space. 

The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell. Isaiah 49:20

Not only will God provide more people for Himself, but He will also defend them, and contend with those who contend with them. It’s a terrible idea to be on the wrong side of God’s people, whether the chosen of Israel or those grafted in who are also the chosen. Those who oppress us will end up doing themselves in, and God will be the one who instigates it. 

Thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people: and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon theirshoulders. Isaiah 49:22
