To the followers of Christ: The people Jesus fed, who had seen the miracle of the barley loaves and the fishes, wanted to make him King. But isn’t that like people? They saw that they didn’t have to work for their food, and if they made Jesus their King, they might quit work, lie around, retire from their toil, and be lazy all day. However, Jesus knew that it would mess up the real reason he came: to die for our sins and become King of our eternity and rid the nations of the sacrificial system, since he was the only sacrifice that was holy enough to do that. So, rather than stay there and let that happen, he slipped away from the crowds and went into the mountains.

When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone. John 6:15

The disciples set out on the sea, but the wind blew, and the sea became rough. That’s when they saw Jesus walking on the water, and they feared seeing him more than the tumultuous sea, but they calmed their fear when he said, “It is I; be not afraid.” They gladly accepted him into the boat. Isn’t that the story of our lives? We initially fear accepting Jesus as our savior, because the world loves us as sinners, but when we relax and realize what is best for us, we gladly accept him as our own, and we arrive at our destiny.

But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid. Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went. John 6:20-21
