To the followers of Christ: When Jesus came near to Mary and Martha’s house, Lazarus had been dead four days. He lingered outside of town near Lazarus’s burial place, likely because some of the people at the house were those who sought to harm him; the Bible doesn’t mention this, but Matthew Henry referred to that possibility, noting that this was why Martha went to meet him outside of town. Mary went to greet him after Martha ran back to the home to tell Mary that Jesus had called for her. At different times, each woman told Jesus that if he had come sooner, their brother wouldn’t have died. We already know from reading through the scriptures that Jesus intended to arrive late because he was about to do a miracle that was unheard of and further proof that he was the Messiah.

We must remember that Jesus is never late; he has impeccable timing. We may think our troubles are far beyond his capability, but we would be terribly mistaken. In this case, Jesus was proving a point by letting things play out and giving himself a chance to show his true ability. What are you waiting on that only God can handle? Have you lost faith in the waiting? No matter what the outcome, God has it handled, and it will work out for what’s best for you and the others involved. Patience and faith are a must. Wait for it; it will surely come and not be delayed.

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? John 11:25-26
