Shedding the World
But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:18-21
There is no need for me to expand on each of the works of the flesh that are pointed out in these scripture verses. If you don't know that these things are wrong, then you have a lot more to worry about than which ones you are guilty of, namely your future. However, what is important to take away from this is that you won't participate in these things if you are walking in the Spirit, because the Holy Spirit lives within you and makes it clear to you that they are wrong, and a person who confesses Jesus as their Savior wouldn't participate in such vile activities. That's why Paul emphasizes that we are not under the law. The law brings attention to worldly things, but we are not of this world because of our salvation.
These scriptures paint a picture of the most heinous sins, but what about the rest? The "such like" included in the verses above? Because Scripture doesn't always point out every detail, we may encounter sinful behavior that isn't as clear to us; that's why we must stay in constant communication with the Father and run our actions past Him by praying before we engage in activities that may cause us to sin. He will give you a check in your Spirit and the option to opt out so you don't cross the line. You will not be tempted beyond your ability to overcome it.
The more you get to know God by studying the scriptures, the less likely you will participate in activities that break His heart.
