It is thought that Ezra put together the Psalms when he went back to Jerusalem to rebuild the Temple at his released from captivity in Babylon. Psalms 1 is like a preface for the songs, and it is a good one for their introduction because it cover good and evil. This psalm gives us a glimpse into what the righteous, who love God and obey Him, have to look forward to for making Him a substantial part of our lives. It also tells us that the ungodly will perish and not stand with the righteous in judgment. However, the righteous, those who have accepted Jesus as their Savior, will flourish so whatever they do will prosper.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Psalms 1:3-4
