Knowledge of the Holy

The Sovereignty of God

"God's sovereignty is the attribute by which He rules His entire creation, and to be sovereign God must be all-knowing, all-powerful, and absolutely free." A.W. Tozer

God's power is not limited, and if it were, would He even be sovereign? The answer is no. Any limit put on Him would take His ruling power away. There are two views of this truth, and the debate ends up being between Calvinism andArminianism. Calvinism holds that God chooses who will become the elect, while Arminianism holds that you get to choose between good and evil, and because He knows what you will choose, He calls you the elect. Tozer gave a good explanation for this, and I'll summarize it: A cruise ship leaves New York bound for Liverpool. Its destination is set and unchangeable. However, the people onboard are free to eat, lounge, play, read, and do whatever pleases them, but they cannot change the port they are destined for. "Both freedom and sovereignty are present here, and they do not contradict each other." A.W. Tozer.

He makes a good point, but after doing a quick study on the differences between Calvinism and Arminianism, it's still a toss-up for me. I tend to believe that God knows what we will choose because He is all-knowing, and we become the elect. It feels like we have a choice, but do we really? Does God limit His power and allow us a choice? I don't know, butdo you know who does? God. I'm on the ship destined for Heaven until the New Earth is created. God's sovereign will shall be done whether you choose good or evil. If we are sincerely free to choose, make sure you choose Jesus, because he is good.

But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased. Psalms 115:3
