God doesn’t want anyone to die in sin and is delighted when we turn away from it to live eternally in His presence. If we continue in evil disobedience, were we genuinely saved? Not likely. A sure sign of our salvation is regretfulness when we do something we know is not right in the eyes of God and repent.
How do you know if you are truly converted?
- You have an aversion to sin.
- It’s cringy when you see others sin and convicted of your own sin.
- You must hate sin.
What are the promises when you turn away from sin?
- You will save your soul and live eternally.
- Your sin will not rise up in judgment against you.
- You will live in righteousness, not for it.
What happens if you turn towards evil and away from righteousness? The same outcome as an unrepentant sinner. Your former righteousness will not save you.
But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. Ezekiel 18:24
Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 2 John 1:8-9
