Miracles Of Jesus: 24

Jesus Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida

A blind man from Bethsaida was brought to Jesus by his friends to be touched by him. They believed that a simple touch from him would cure him. We can never guess how Jesus will do things because he took this man by the hand and led him outside the town, though his friends thought that would be enough to heal him. Two things are at play here: Jesus wasn’t giving Bethsaida any more proof of who he was because they were still reluctant to follow him, and it’s possible that this blind man didn’t have 100% faith that Jesus could cure him and was relying on his friend’s faith.

And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly. Mark 8:23-25

If we receive the miracle of healing, which doesn’t happen very often, sometimes it’s immediate and complete. However, others might receive a gradual cure. We might feel a slight change, but it takes time for overall recovery.

There is a spiritual aspect to this type of healing, too. Some of us gradually wake up to the truth of who Jesus is, while others miraculously feel relieved of all their past sins, but others must slowly slough them off one at a time to feel their freedom, even though their sins have been completely washed away. Like Jesus, we must take those who are blind to the truth by the hand and lead them to the saving knowledge of the One who saves us from our iniquity and can heal us of our unbelief.
