There are times when we become overcome with depression and feel like our lives are over, especially when darkness overtakes us. Psalms 88 goes a long way back, to the time when the Israelites were under oppression and slaves of the Egyptians. This psalm was thought to have been written by Heman, the grandson of Judah. Unlike most of the psalms, this one doesn’t point to any light or worship God by giving Him credit for taking away the darkness. However, what we can learn from this song is that no matter how dismal our situation seems, or when there is no one to turn to for comfort, we can always reach out to God and ask for His intervention and consolation. Even though this psalm doesn’t contain the outcome of the prayer, we know from experience that simply being able to reach out to God and unload our troubles to Him can uplift our souls and give us peace knowing that He hears us and will soon give us an answer. If you are having a bad day and hope seems lost, lift your voice to God; He hears you and will comfort you as the words spill from your mouth. Don’t suffer alone; give your cares to God.

O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee: Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry; Psalms 88:1-2
