Knowledge of the Holy
God's Omnipresence
Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD. Jeremiah 23:24
Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. Psalms 139:7-8
You might wonder, if God is everywhere and with me all the time, why do I experience pain and heartache? A.W. Tozer put it this way, “As a child may cry out in pain even when sheltered in its mother’s arms, so a Christian may sometimes know what it is to suffer even in the conscious presence of God.” Not only that, but He knows and sees what you are doing and what others are doing to you, so sins cannot be hid from Him. Knowing that gives me comfort because countless people sin against us, and God knows, and they will receive His retribution and due time. Loneliness shouldn’t be a thing, but it is. It’s not about being alone, because we are never alone; it’s about missing human contact and sometimes needing the comfort of others with skin on. However, if you cry out to Him when you are lonely, I assure you He will comfort you with His presence or send a human to console you.
I’ll never forget a time well after my first husband passed away and the house was empty of people except for my five-year-old son; loneliness hit me like a ton of bricks, and I found myself face down on the floor experiencing the deepest isolation I had ever faced, crying out to God for help when, like clockwork and God’s timing, someone knocked on the door. It was my neighbor. She told me about Richard, my now husband. It took me a few times passing his hardware store before I decided to visit, but once I finally did, my loneliness was over. That was 30 years ago, and I haven’t been lonely since. God hears you and sees, and you can expect that He will show you who He is when the time is right because He is always with you.
