The events leading up to the birth of Christ, on the surface, may have seemed as though there was no planning involved, but the plans were actually well under way. Every jot and tittle were perfectly placed to welcome onto earth the Savior of all mankind. Just think about all the things that had to fall into place. As an example, I'm not sure of the legal consequences, but why would Mary, being so far along in her pregnancy, have to make an appearance and be counted in Bethlehem? The Father had a perfect, well laid plan, and it all makes sense here in hindsight. Bethlehem means 'house of bread'. So you see, Mary having to trudge all that way to be counted was all calculated by God and He used Caesar Augustus to accomplish His task so that divine perfection could be met. Just notice all the clues that God gave us! Jesus the bread of life, born in the city of the same name. He gives us clues about our life too, so pay close attention!
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. Luke 2:4-5
