May 24, 2025

Looking back and longing for what he once was, Job continued his defense summary by listing his accolades from before he was taken down and the honors that were bestowed upon him by all who revered his counsel. He was a righteous man and a good judge; the young men feared him, and the old men stood up in his presence. It’s not like Job was ordinary; no, he was nobility. In his discourse, he paints a picture that reminds me of Jesus. Like Jesus stepping down from Heaven in the flesh, Job was a type of Christ that had once been blessed with God’s presence and had honor amongst the men of his day. It hit me this morning as I read this chapter: we are living Job’s life right now. We have not yet reached the rebuilding process. We have so much to gain in our own lives if Job’s story is a reflection of ours, and we fast-forward to the end to see that Job’s life was restored in abundance, over and above what he had. Job’s story just took on a whole new meaning; it is our story. Stand firm in your faith like Job did, and we, too, can expect abundance when the trial of this life is over. Rejoice and praise the Lord, for He is good, and His mercies endure forever!

My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.

Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.

After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.

And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

Job 29:20-23
