My yard is now full of fruit-bearing trees; however, I never thought of planting a fig tree. My only encounter with figs is the Fig Newton cookies; I loved those as a kid. I only thought about it because I've been going over Jesus's words about his second coming, and he mentions the fig tree. He tells us we will know his time is near just like when the tender shoots of the fig tree begin to come out, we know summer is near. I decided to look up how to grow figs on the internet; it doesn't seem that hard, but they are susceptible to nematodes. I was at Tractor Supply yesterday, and guess what they had? Fig trees! And they had fruit on them too! Look, why am I now thinking about growing them? I believe the Holy Spirit is making a point, so I write about it as a reminder that we are in the throws of summer and are already beginning to see the fruit of Jesus's approaching return. The thought is exhilarating. I feel thankful and honored that he chose me to live during this time. It may not be an easy time to live in, but we will experience one of the most incredible events in the earth's history.
Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” And he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. As soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. Luke 21:28-31
