January 10, 2025

Not only do we need to read the scriptures, but the reading must be accompanied by the power of the Holy Spirit to make sense. Anyone can read, but when God’s power manifests through us by His Spirit, we know we are saved. What does that look like? You will begin to rid yourself of your old sinful ways and take on the identity of Christ. Similarly, what were just words on a page before your salvation has new meaning and depth as the Holy Spirit reveals the truth through God’s living words.

What’s more and quite unusual is that you bear with affliction, knowing that tribulations only strengthen your faith. We see God’s power manifest when we are going through trials and come out with new strength that can only be attributed to God. Another point to remember is that we were chosen, which means our strength to endure hardships comes directly from the Lord; he wouldn’t have picked you if he didn’t think you could handle it. Today, thank God for him choosing you for salvation, giving you the strength to endure the process of sanctification, and opening your eyes through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God. For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost: 1 Thessalonians 1:4-6
