Yesterday, the electric company finished installing outdoor lighting on our property. We have a long driveway, and before the installation of lights, it was very dark, and the coverage of trees didn't allow much moonlight. We were so excited to see it lit up that we hurried outside to see them in our bare feet. We were drawn out there like bugs to a light! The light would have connected down the driveway if it weren't for the trees. As Christians, our light should shine, connecting to other Christ-followers. If any trees are dimming the glow, we should prune them to help promote the brightness. We should draw people to us because they see something different within us and feel the peace of Jesus when they are close. They may not know what it is that's so different; that's why sometimes we need to open our mouths and tell them the reason for our peace. As a caveat, people who love darkness will be antagonistic toward you. Don't let that bother you; keep your good testimony and peace.
but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. 1 Peter 3:15-16
