Back in October, we ordered an extra long patio table and chairs. We wanted enough seating to fit all of our family, including the children. It was finally delivered yesterday, but before they offloaded it, they came to me and told me that the table broke during transport and must be returned to the warehouse. I was disappointed. They left me with the chairs, so I have them set up, without the table, to get an idea of how well it will fit. Here is the lesson I got from the situation:
As Christ-followers, God has given us the seat of honor and the authority, the chairs, to continue with his business while we wait for him, the table, to return. He was broken for our transgressions but was made whole again at his resurrection. We will all sit at his table in holy communion with Him and fellowship with one another on that great and glorious day when he arrives. Until then, we are to wait patiently and continue his work.
Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. 1 John 3:2-3
